Les Borjs de la Kasbah

Moments in time

Marrakech 1969 attracted a very specific audience……. “lateral thinkers”. Philosophers, intellectuals, artists, musicians, writers and of course Hippies. A fantastic journey involving folk, freeing their minds, and looking for adventure. This search for the utopian ideal has been classically illustrated, in the 1992 novel, “Hideous Kinky” by Esther Freud. A moving story tells of the struggles of a young mother, Julia, and her 5 and 7 years old daughters having arrived in Marrakech, in the 1960’s, in search of “enlightenment”.

So whilst the Rolling Stones were propping up the “Kif” trade on the first floor of Cafe de France in the D’ Jemaa el Fna and Kenneth Williams was becoming smitten, in a more discreet part of the town, Michael and Françoise were embarking on a journey of their own.

In order to supplement Mike’s income in the film industry the expedition party procured a Citroen 2CV and the two intrepid young explorers set off, from Britain, to France to hunt out choice properties for holiday letting.

By 1970 the foundations of VFB Holidays (Vacances Franco-Britanniques) offering the independent traveller proper and impartial choice when considering a place to stay. Today VFB Holidays maintain that same attention to detail but now offering travel locations to farther distant lands.

So what has been learnt…….. with 35 years, under their belts, Inspecting suitable accommodation, for their clients, a new direction for Mike & Françoise arrived in March 2004 when they took the plunge and purchased property in the southern end of the Medina, the Kasbah. With Saadian Tombs and Royal Palaces and Royal Gardens scattered in abundance Mike & Françoise started on a sure footing. By 2006 Mike & Françoise had increased the portfolio to 7 adjoining Riad-Dar homes and systematically blended the entire cacophony into oneness. Les Borjs de la Kasbah was born.

By 2007 Mike & Françoise had a new arrival, the swimming pool, and spa centre was completed. A signature boutique hotel had emerged to serve their guests to a standard developed over nearly 4 decades.

Today homage can be paid to Mike & Françoise and their young inspired Architect. Les Borjs de la Kasbah symbolises excellence in needs and wants of the end-user. Price conscious, starting from £100 double room/night, is the first question answered, price conscious airport transfers, price conscious food and drinks tariffs. Multi-lingual staff, all very friendly and unobtrusive. Seriously good linen and well equipped across the whole range of needs.

If a Hotel is not the kind of introduction to Marrakech you perceived when first considered embarking of your own journey AND maybe a Riad holiday sounds fun but offers uncertainly? The try Les Borjs de la Kasbah a hybrid. Definitely a Riad and definitely a Boutique Hotel. If you want a Riad holiday and your partner wants a hotel than Les Borjs de la Kasbah will not fall short on either expectation.

Would I stay here?.

  I do.
